Richard Stanley Sorby Born April 20, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts Passed away to our heavenly Father September 2, 2006 in Mount Vernon. Richard Sorby was born in Boston, Massachusetts 86 years ago to John and Margaret Sorby both of Oslo, Norway. He graduated from Brookline High School. He is survived by three brothers: Bud, Wes and Norman and one sister; Virginia residing in California, Florida and Oregon. His beloved wife, Virginia (retired RN) marred over 53 years who resides in Bow, Washington, their home of the last 33 years. Their two children: Steven R. Sorby and spouse Lisa and grandson Logan; also daughter Vickie Brady and husband Dusty and grandchildren Morgan and Vanessa all residing in Skagit Valley. Richard's colorful past will be remembered of the Coast Guard and flying PBY's amphibious planes he had logged the most hours in the air in WWII on the instrument panel. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91. He loved the Puget Sound when he'd take his boat "Sea Wolfie" out and enjoy the great Northwest and Canada and knew the islands intimately. He loved a good road trip taking his family just short of ten thousand miles across country! Retired from the DMV and enjoyed painting and sharing his talent with those he loved, included 30 ft. murals of trains and Palm Sunday of Jesus mural at his church and loved painting wildlife also. He succumbed to complications from Alzheimer's late Saturday night at Mira Vista right in view from his old church out his window. May God rest his soul and keep him safe. Viewing will be held Thursday, September 7, 2006, 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm and Friday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home followed by a graveside service, 2: 00 pm at Hawthorne Memorial Park and a reception to follow in the Hawthorne Reception Room.
