IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Todd
April 9, 1959 – July 4, 2023
Richard Scott Todd was born April 9, 1959 to Stanley and Margaret Todd in Fairbanks, Alaska. The family moved to Mt. Vernon, WA in 1965. His paper routes, dogs, bicycling and hiking as well as reading history and mythologies were his youthful joys. In 1976 he enlisted in the Army before graduating from Mt Vernon High School in 1977. Once in the Army he became a trained medic and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1983 he and Pamela Greene married and began a love story that lasted throughout Richard's life. Richard finished his RN degree at Skagit Valley College in 1984 and took up residence in Snohomish County. He worked as a psychiatric nurse, first for the Department of Corrections at Monroe and then at Providence Behavioral Health Unit. He continued his military career in the Army Nurse Corp for a total of 26 years and served on active duty during both Gulf Wars.
Throughout his life he continued his reading, hiking and kayaking. Richard retired early with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. But that diagnosis didn't hold him back and in 2017 he walked 500 miles in 33 days on the Camino de Santiago with his sister, Bonnie. With his joy in life and positive attitude, he beat the odds for over 9 years. His family and friends are ever so grateful that he stayed with us with enough stamina to enjoy life until his final week.
Richard passed on July 4, 2023 at Providence Hospital in Everett. He leaves behind his wife Pamela, their sheltie Simon, several cats, sisters Charlotte Hutt (CJ Blaney), Laurie Todd (Terri Grayum) and Bonnie Bowers (Bud). He also leaves three nieces whom he adored, their families and many close and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held August 13 at 2 pm at the Grandview Community Center at 11506 Smokes Road, Arlington. In lieu of flowers consider contributing to the animal rescue of your choice, NPR or PBS
