Obituary

Robert Aubrey Aus

Robert Aubrey Aus passed from this world to the next on December 21, 2021, finally fulfilling his desire to be reunited with his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Lee, who preceded him in death on June 23, 2008. Born in New Richmond, Wisconsin on July 27, 1931, Bob graduated from Amery High School in 1949. After a brief stint in the National Guard, Bob joined the Navy at age 18 where he attended Naval Submarine School, graduating in February 1950. He then went on to serve aboard the USS TILEFISH until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. Upon leaving the Navy, Bob attended the University of Wisconsin as well as the Cordon Bleu School of Cooking and studied wine under Paul Masson before starting his extensive career in the food industry as a top chef, manager, owner, and eventually into sales and consulting. Over his illustrious career, Bob received recognition at many restaurants including the Restaurant Association's Gold Plate, the Silver Butter Knife, Holiday Magazine Award, Gold Cup and many others too numerous to list.

Robert met the love of his life while cooking at the prestigious Frenchies restaurant in Milwaukee WI. Betty Lee was working as a waitress and it was love at first sight. They married on January 28, 1956 and Bob adopted her three children, Sandra Stryjek, deceased 1/28/10 (Paul), Russell (Janis), and Laurie Koval. They went on to have five more children, James (Christie), Michelle Barstad (Daniel), Jeffrey, Kathleen and Bettina Rockefellow (Russ). Bob was blessed beyond measure with his 21 grandchildren and 31 great grands, all of whom he loved dearly. Bob never truly got over the loss of his wife and daughter and mourned them greatly till the day he died. We remaining children are at peace knowing he is exactly where he wants to be…with his Lord and the loved ones who have gone before him.

Bob loved tinkering in his shop, feeding his birds, cooking, and shopping for bargains, much of which he bought just to gift to an organization or person in need. It was a rare occasion for one of his children or grandchildren to leave empty handed after a visit with him. He was active for many years in politics, his church, the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, the Board of Realtors and as a volunteer at local food banks, but one of his greatest pleasures was serving as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound elderly.

Per Robert's request, there will be no services aside from a private family internment where he'll be laid to rest with his bride. In lieu of flowers, if you feel led, please donate to any Veteran's organization of your choice.
