Obituary

Robert Emmett (Bob) Best Bob passed away on December 10, 2006 in the comfort of his home with family at his side. Bob was born in Simsboro, LA on April 29, 1920, the son of Joseph C. and Elizabeth (Matthews) Best. He was raised and attended school in Simsboro until entering the US Military for service from 1939-1943. On December 27, 1943 Bob was united in marriage to Laura Bernice Boothby in Mission City, BC Canada. They made their first home in Seattle, WA. Bob and Laura were married over sixty years until her death in 2004. Bob spent his years self employed in the restaurant business. Form 1948 -1952, he managed the Epicure in White Center, Seattle, WA. From 1952-1968 Bob and Laura owned and operated Laura's Grill in the North of end of Seattle. In 1970 they opened the Galley 5 Restaurant in Burlington which became a local favorite of the Skagit Valley for the next 25 years. In 1975, Bob's two sons purchased the business from their parents. Bob and Laura retired in Lynnwood, WA. Bob is survived by his two sons and their wives: Dick and Ruth Best of Burlington and Joe and Diane Best of Mount Vernon; his grandchildren: Deborah and John Best of Burlington, Jena Best of Moses Lake, WA and Duke Best of Virginia; two great-grandchildren: Zoe in Burlington and Alex in Renton, WA; a nephew Aubrey Lewis Richardson of Blum, TX; one Sister Kathleen Conville of Simsboro, LA. The special people in Bob's life included Candice Moore, JR and Connie Solis and family, Leonard and June Schneider of Seattle, and his table-mates at the Bridge; Harlan, Bud and Sam. The family wants to send a special thank you to Mary Solis his constant caregiver the past several weeks, the staff at the The Bridge in Mount Vernon and all the team members of Skagit Hospice. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at a later date.
