IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Guy
November 29, 1951 – April 6, 2021
Robert Gene Guy of Big Lake, age 69, passed into the loving arms of his
Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2021. He had fought a good fight against
Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson's. Rob was born on November
29, 1951 in Abilene, TX to Rev. Donald and Mary Guy. As a child, he lived in
many different places. His favorite place was Leavenworth, WA. Rob
graduated from high school in 1969. He then attended Northwest
Nazarene University in Nampa, ID graduating in 1973 with a degree in
Elementary Education and an emphasis in music. Rob did graduate work
at Boise State University, Harvard and Western Washington University
where he received his Masters in Elementary Science and then School
Administration. Rob began his teaching career in Homedale, ID where he
taught 5th grade for 5 years. After moving to Washington Rob began his
career in 1980 with the Sedro-Woolley School District until 2012 when
health issues ended his career. He was a teacher and principal at Big Lake
Elementary and a principal at Mary Purcell Elementary. He later worked for
OSPI as a science coach for the district and also taught at State Street
High School. Wherever Rob taught or was the principal he greatly
impacted students and staff with his warmth, care, and love of science. He
loved helping the struggling student because he himself had been one in
his early school years. He could see each student and what their needs
were with an uncanny ability to help them. Students, of which his children
Lisa and Nathan were part of, still tell about the joy it was to be in his class.
Staff who worked under his principalship tell about his love and care for
them.
Rob was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church as well the music and
choir director for adults and kids for many years. His love for the Lord ran
deep and his faith was a part of who he was.
Rob was a strong supporter of the Big Lake community beginning in 1980.
He was a Fire Commisioner for 14 years with the Big Lake Fire
Department.
Rob was well known for his delightful and at times silly and "punny" sense
of humor. He could make everyone laugh. The Hospice staff loved coming
here and as the nurse said, "I never know what he is going to say next!"
Through all his sickness he never lost his sense of humor.
Rob met the love of his life, and best friend, Andrea (Benson) Guy in
September 1970 at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, ID. Rob
always said he knew right away she was the one. Andrea says what she
loved first was his beautiful smile. They were married on December 28,
1972 and had 48 wonderful years together.
Rob was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Donald Guy, his father and
mother-in-law Ted and Myrtle (Rodvelt) Benson as well as his sister-in-law
Annette (Benson) Teeter.
Rob is survived by his mother Mary Ann Guy, his wife Andrea, his children
and their spouses Lisa (Guy) Schweizer and her husband Hans of Big
Lake, Nathan Guy and his wife Mandi Guy of Nampa, ID. Five beautiful
grandchildren. Koen and Tove Schweizer of Big Lake and Gavin, Bristol
and Carli Jo Guy of Nampa, ID, his brother Steve Guy of San Jose, CA, his
brothers-and sisters-in-law Gary and Arlene Moore and Jack and Carolyn
Teeter, his aunts and uncles, Bonita Sellers of OK, Tommy Sellers of OK,

nephews that survive him.

outstanding care of Rob over the years. Thank you to Hospice of the
Northwest. Your care and support was so needed and appreciated. Thank
you Halley for arranging the special airplane flight over the Skagit Valley. It
was a joy for him.
