Bob was born November 20, 1932 in Abilene, Texas to parents Aleen and Jerrold McCormick. He moved to Dallas, Texas as a young child. In his teens he moved to Garland, Texas and graduated from Garland High School in 1950. Upon graduation, he joined the navy and served as a corpsman on the hospital ship Repose and with the Seabees in the Philippines. After his term in the service he attended SMU and North Texas State College. In 1955 he returned to the navy and was stationed at Sandpoint NAS in Seattle. He met Joanne Bailey and they were married March 10, 1958. Bob continued his service and they were stationed not only in Seattle but also in Oakland CA, Glenview, IL, Portsmouth, VA, Chicago and again in Glenview, IL, Alameda CA, Twin Cities, MN. and Oak Harbor, WA. He retired from the navy as a Senior Chief in 1971. After retirement he worked at Skagit Valley Hospital and Alliance Office Products. He was a co-leader of the Hare Raisers and Harmony Harvesters 4-H clubs. He retired again in 1994.
He attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon where he sang in the choir from 1970 until 2019. Choir practice was the highlight of his week. He loved sharing his faith through his singing and often soloed in church. He also served on the building committee, taught Sunday school and tied quilts with the Sewing for Others quilting group. Bob's hobbies included traveling, singing, golfing, and cross-stitching. He loved snow birding in California for 3 months every year.
Bob passed away peacefully at home June 11, 2020. He is survived by his wife Joanne, six children Becky, Jerry, Doug, Debbie, Tammie and Michelle, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and one sister. He was preceded in death by one other sister.
A celebration of life at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, WA will be announced in the future.
