Early years was a hand to mouth existence slopping hogs and picking cotton for 1/2 cent a lb.
As soon as possible, he packed his flour sack shirt and bib overalls and joined the Navy. Five years (1947-1952) in the military was spent on aircraft carriers as a catapult specialist.

Broke and in debt, he started work in the educational field in Marblemount, WA. He and Juanita loved the Skagit Valley and decided to make it their home.
After two years in Marblemount, they moved down river to Concrete. After several years in Concrete, Bob spent the remainder of his teaching career in Sedro Woolley, retiring in 1984 after serving in many administrative positions.
While in education, Bob fished in Alaska in the summers. After retirement, he continued to be involved in commercial fishing. Bob had partnerships in many fishing adventures including - salmon, herring, and halibut fishing in Southeast Alaska, shrimping in the Gulf of Mexico and long lining tuna in Hawaii.
Bob is survived by his wife, Juanita, daughter, Colleen, son, Mark (Kelly), sister, Joyce and grandchildren Alysha, Kellen, Marissa and Grant.
