Obituary

Robert (Bob) William Fisher, age 93, passed away Sunday, July 24th, at Creekside Memory Care in Burlington, WA.

As part of 6 generations in Skagit County, Bob was born to Bow residents William C. (Bill) Fisher and Clara Ruth Nordahl Fisher on March 24, 1929. He attended school in Mt. Vernon off Hoag Rd. and the Old Avon School west of Mt. Vernon, where he enjoyed playing in the gym. He often told stories of his early years living off the George Hopper exit in Burlington on the northwest corner. After moving to a farm on Worline Rd in Bow, he attended school in Edison and graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. He pursued refrigeration school in Vancouver, WA, and when in school, supported himself financially with a job in construction.

Bob married Gloria JoAnne Busha on July 9, 1950, and together they raised three sons and one daughter. After JoAnne's stroke, Bob took care of her, preparing her meals and continued to take her on trips, which she enjoyed. JoAnne died in 2015.

It has been said that Bob left no stone unturned. He was a businessman, being self employed most of his adult life. After technical school in Vancouver, WA, he went to work for Charles Reisdorph, a building contractor, and became a partner in Fisher Reisdorph until 1967. In 1968 Bob started Fisher Construction, a custom home contractor in Burlington, WA. Bob formed Fisher and Sons, a construction engineering company in 1975. After retirement in 1996, his legacy lived on. Fisher Constructions group does business in 26 states and Canada, with 400 full time employees.

Bob was an avid sportsman. He was a big game guide in Idaho for 40 years, a steelhead guide on the Skagit and Cowlitz River for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting ducks and was a member of the Samish Bay Brant Club on Samish Island.

He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Skagit Golf and Country Club for over 50 yeras. He was an avid snow skier. He became a certified scuba diver and an IFR rated pilot. His greatest love may have been boating, having owned several yachts for 60 plus years. While aboard there were fish to be caught, clams to dig, oysters to shuck, or crab to clean. His travel companions, first cousins Don and Ivan Nordahl, enjoyed a few of those fishing trips to Alaska, as well as his wife, JoAnne. He had many friends and family enjoy time on their boats over the years fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and more. He traveled frequently and also enjoyed his motor home.

Bob's greatest achievement may be as a father. He and his wife, JoAnne, had their children in the outdoors most every weekend. They went camping, backpacking, fishing, and boating in the summer. Snow skiing and hunting in the winter.

Bob enjoyed the company of his family and friends. Bob was a lifelong member of the Edison Lutheran Church.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife JoAnne Busha Fisher 10/20/2015; one brother, Marvin Fisher 6/16/2015; his father Bill Fisher 5/1/1988; and his mother Ruth Fisher 11/1/1980.

He is survived by his children Jerome (Karen) Fisher, Chad (Colleen) Fisher, Todd (Debbie) Fisher, and Veonne (Aaron) Brown; his grandchildren include Bobbi (Jensen Ahrenius) Fisher, Danielle (Bryan), Galbraith, Daniel (Laura) Fisher, "Duke" (Kendra) Fisher, Michelle (Kyle) Axelson, Chris Fisher, Craig (Naomi Polanski) Fisher, Candy (Chris) Smart, and Scott (Savey) Brown. Bob had numerous great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Bob's caretakers through the years, Marsha and Freda, and more recently the people of Creekside Continuing Care Community and Hospice of Skagit County. An extra special thank-you to Bob's companion and friend, Marion Hoag. Her companionship, love, and care brought great happiness to Bob in the last six years of his life.

The service will be held at Edison Lutheran Church on Sunday, October 9th at 1:00 PM. There will be a celebration of Bob's life at the Skagit Golf and Country Club from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
