He grew up on Chuckanut Drive in Bow, Washington and attended Edison Elementary School and Burlington-Edison High School. He was a dedicated runner and wrestler for BEHS and continued the sport while attending Skagit Valley College and Washington State University. As an adult, Joe resided in the Bow area, near the home where he grew up. He was employed as a manager at Hanson & Peterson Feed Company, and at different points in his life worked as a local private carpenter and a fisherman in Alaska. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, collecting, traveling, assisting others with projects, card games and puzzles, westerns, making pies, gardening, and attending his grandson’s sports events. He could be described as independent, determined, strong, resourceful, and helpful.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eileen and Oscar Peterson; “Uncle Hank” Tenneson; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and John Montoya; and his brother, Stanton (Button) Peterson.
He is survived by his daughter, Corey Peterson and grandson Tyler Peterson; his daughter, Holly and husband Fernando Perez , and grandsons, Emilio, Benicio, and Salvador Perez; his brother Dennis (Mac) and Leslie Peterson; cousins, nieces and nephew; former spouse, Janne Peterson; and his close friend, Shirley Scott.
A memorial will be planned for summer. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Northwest or to a charity of your choice.
