IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roy
Bonner
August 23, 1935 – March 8, 2025
Roy Carrol Bonner, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Roy was born on August 23, 1935, in Laurel, Mississippi, the second of ten children born to Harry Leo and Gracie Irene Bonner.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 as a member of the Seabees, Battalion 11. After his time in the Navy, Roy returned home to Harrisburg, Oregon, where he met the love of his life, Delores Johnson (Bonner). Their love story continued even after Roy moved back to Mississippi, as he faithfully wrote love letters to Delores. They became engaged in the summer of 1958 and were married that September.
Roy and Delores built a beautiful life together, welcoming their children Steven Leo in 1960 and Roger Carrol in 1961 while living in Mississippi. In 1961, the family settled in Oregon, where Roy pursued a career in the autobody trade after attending trade school under the GI Bill. They later welcomed Raymon Dale in 1963 and Gloria Jeanne in 1965, completing their loving family.
In 1988, Roy fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his own autobody repair shop, Dally's Auto Body. He was proud to work alongside his family and became a respected leader in the industry. Roy was a leader for I-CAR continuous education and training and served as ACA President, guiding and shaping the industry until his retirement in 1998.
Roy had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, crabbing, boating, or gardening, he was happiest surrounded by nature. One of his greatest joys was working on his family truck, Clem, which he customized and proudly showed at car shows, winning countless trophies. Roy also found joy in building and gifting birdhouses—a labor of love that touched the lives of many.
A true patriot, Roy loved his country and was a proud supporter of veterans, the NRA, and his fellow Americans. He lived his life with integrity, generosity, and a playful sense of humor.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Irene; his beloved wife of 64 years, Delores (Dee) Bonner; siblings Melvin, Harold (Bone), James, Erlene, Sandra, and Gebra; sister-in-law Helen Loreen (Loree) Johnson; daughter-in-law Anita Bonner; and his great-grandson, Braxton Lee-Roy Hulst.
He is survived by his children: Steven Leo (Tammy), Roger Carrol, Raymon Dale (Valerie), and Gloria Jeanne Hulst (Mark); his siblings Ella Pearl, Calvin Claude, Charles William, and Sister in Law Shirley Ann Henderson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a large circle of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Roy lived a full life surrounded by the love and support he created through his kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived.
