She also worked in the store at Gai's Bakery Mount Vernon, driving cars from Canada to auto auctions in the United States, and as a guide during major renovation at Skagit Valley Medical Center. Always proud of her Norwegian heritage, Ruth was very active with the Sons of Norway Abel Lodge in Conway until her health began to fail, and was also a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, knitting, camping, traveling, to Arizona during the winter, going to Mariners games, and attending the sporting events and dance recitals of her children and grandchildren.
