Ruth Jane Stone (Jane), 90, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Mira Vista Care Center,
Mount Vernon, WA.
Jane was born July 7, 1932, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Eugene (Gene) and Ruth Stone.
She attended schools in DeKalb, Illinois, and graduated from North Park Academy and
College (School of Music) in Chicago, Illinois.
Jane started working in the youth department at Covenant Evangelical Church
Headquarters, part-time during her high school years and then full time from June 1951 until April
1959. She served as Administrative Secretary at Peninsula Covenant Church in Redwood City, CA,
from April 1959 to April 1976, a move which brought her to the West Coast and closer to sister
Marilyn and her family. In April 1976 she accepted a position as Secretary to Head Coach Monte
Clark and Coaching Staff for the San Francisco 49ers. She served in that position until November
1977. She then ventured to the East Coast to serve as Administrative Assistant to Don Klingberg at
the Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain, Connecticut, ministering there from January 1978
until June 1980. In June 1980 she returned to the West Coast where she served as an
Administrative Assistant in several departments at Menl0 Park Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park,
CA, until her retirement in July 2007, when she moved to Mount Vernon, WA.
Jane enjoyed music, singing in choirs and playing piano. She also enjoyed traveling,
sometimes combining music with her travels. In retirement Jane volunteered as an usher at
McIntyre Hall Performing Arts Center in Mount Vernon, at the Tulip Festival Office in Mount
Vernon, and worked with students at Children of the Valley, an after-school program hosted by
Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon. She also participated with Melody Makers, singing
and providing piano accompaniment at various care facilities in the Skagit Valley area.
Jane was a member of Bethany Covenant Church since moving to Mount Vernon in 2007.
She was a talented knitter who created beautiful baby blankets and sweaters for her nephews
and niece and grandnephews and nieces. She was also an amazing hostess who loved welcoming
family and friends, always setting a beautiful table and known for her wonderful soups. An avid
sports fan, she loved watching sports of all kinds ~ football, basketball, and baseball! While in
California, she was a regular attendee for Stanford Women's Volleyball.
Jane is survived by nephew Gordon (Linda) Floodeen, nephew Eric Floodeen, niece Jane
Ellen Floodeen; four grandnephews and nieces: Carl Floodeen (Hannah), Kyrstin Floodeen (Bryan
Taylor), Andrew Floodeen (Liz), Carolyn Floodeen; and seven great-grandnephews and nieces
(Tilla Floodeen, Linus Floodeen, Aria Floodeen, Amabel Taylor, Asa Taylor, Aella Taylor, Ellen
Floodeen). She was preceded in death by her sister Marilyn Floodeen, her brother-in-law Eldon
Floodeen, and her niece-in-law Laura Floodeen.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Jane at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount
Vernon on March 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
