Obituary

Shannon Denise Cruz (Peterson), 24, died unexpectedly on March 28, 2017.

Born on March 19, 1993 in Mount Vernon, Washington, to Todd David and Karen Brink Peterson.  She married Jose Cruz on April 1, 2014. Besides her parents and husband she is survived by, her brother, Preston David Peterson, her maternal grandmother, Sally Peebles Brink, and her paternal grandfather and his wife, Jerry Alan and Cynthia Peterson.  Her maternal grandfather, Sheldon Earl Brink, and paternal grandmother, Mary Hansen Peterson, predeceased Shannon.  Loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends mourn her passing.

A graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Shannon also attended Skagit Valley College.  She worked as a kidney dialysis technician in Mount Vernon, Bellingham, and Smokey Point.  She grew up in Emmanuel Baptist church but called His Place Community Church home for the past 4 years. Always active in youth programs at her church, she served as a leader for 5 years in Awana and 2 years in Studio A.

Shannon was an active member of Kreative Kids 4H club where she participated in crafts, sewing, cooking, and showing rabbits each year at the Skagit County Fair.  She loved music, loved worshipping each week in church, dancing and singing through all activities in life, and played several instruments including the piano.

Outgoing, fun loving and adventurous, Shannon spent the past year crisscrossing the country as a traveling dialysis technician with her husband Jose.  Shannon loved being a wife, and longed for kids some day. Her dogs Zoey and Dexter were her current babies. She enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening and treasured time with her family and friends.

A celebration of Shannon's life will be conducted on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at His Place Church in Burlington.

Beloved by all, gone too soon. We will always miss her but are comforted knowing she is in the loving arms of Jesus.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Seattle Children's Hospital or Awana Scholarship program care of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
