Obituary

Sharon Ann Welsh passed away suddenly from health issues at Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon, WA on Wednesday June 29, 2022.

Sharon was born on March 16, 1947, to Walter Arthur Matson and Barbara Lavelle Miller in Portland Oregon.  She was raised by her aunt and uncle Howard Storm and Nadine Miller after her mother died when she was 3 years old.  She attended Catholic School in Portland until she moved to Burlington Washington.  She graduated from Burlington High School. She had many great lifelong friends.

Sharon met Jerry Norman Lanphere while working at Northern State Hospital.  They married and had a daughter, Tammy.  Sharon later married Thomas Daniel Welsh and had Darcie and Scott.  They settled in Mount Vernon WA.

Sharon went on to attend Western Washington University.  She received a bachelor's degree in Human Services and Chemical Dependency counseling.   She belonged to local A.A. groups and mentored many people recovering from alcohol addictions. She volunteered with the friendship house and its start-up, volunteered for the March of Dimes, Domestic Violence, Rebecca's, and she was a strong Democrat and volunteer.  She was a member of the Catholic Church, then the United Methodist Church for many years, and then Hillcrest Methodist.

She loved playing the ukulele at the Senior Center in Mount Vernon and being part of the Blue Heron drumming group, and playing Bunco with her friends, attending local theater productions at the Lincoln Theater, she was an artist and when she was younger, she was an avid roller skater and could be found skating at the rinks in Portland.

She loved country drives and rock collecting with her kids and grandkids. She loved her family, friends, and animals, dancing, singing, eating good food, and dressing up.

Sharon will be missed by all who knew her.  Please friends and family attend a celebration of Life at Hillcrest Park, July Sunday, July 17 th , from 11:30 to 3:00 pm, Potluck.  Suggested bringing a camp chair for your comfort and a story. Dress in fun big hats and sparkles just like mom!

Sharon is survived by her daughters Tammy Lanphere Oommen (Alex), Darcie Welsh, son Scott Welsh (Tina), grandchildren Marc, Andrew, Annamarie Oommen, Casey, TJ, Mary, Nick Mauck, Tyler Welsh, step-grandkids Sean Kelley (Jess and Poppy), Nikki Snyder (Geoff} and Elizabeth and Autumn, beloved dog Jerry.
