Shelley J. Dempster Weldon, age 76, of Mount Vernon WA, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2019 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon WA.
Shelley was born in Bellingham WA to John and Avis Dempster on December 22, 1942. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1961 and from Western Washington State College in 1965 with a BA in Education. While at College, performing in a summer opera, she met and eventually married the love of her life, Harry Weldon. They married on August 22, 1964 at Sacred Heart Church in Bellingham. She taught elementary school in Mount Vernon until she and Harry began a family. She stayed at home to raise their kids until returning to work in retail, eventually retiring from Soine's Teaching Tools. She was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and sang in the choir for over 40 years. She and Harry had a great partnership for 25 years directing the musicals at LaVenture Middle School in Mount Vernon. She supported the Lincoln Theatre as the Volunteer Coordinator and championed music and the arts throughout the Valley.
Shelley is preceded in death by her parents, John and Avis Dempster.
Shelley is survived by her husband Harry Weldon, daughter Lynne Rittenhouse, her son David and daughter-in-law Dana Weldon, her four grandchildren; Paige Rittenhouse, Colin Rittenhouse, Ben Weldon, Aaron Weldon and her brother John Dempster.
Funeral Mass will be held at 12:15 on Monday March 18 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 400 North 15 th Street Mount Vernon WA. A Reception will follow the committal service at Saint Joseph Center 215 North 15 th Mount Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund 215 North 15 th St. Mount Vernon 98273 or the Lincoln Theatre Foundation PO Box 2312 Mount Vernon WA 98274.
