Obituary

Sherry Shipley was a wife, a mother and grandmother.

Sherry was conceived in Texas, born in Seattle and grew up in Skagit County with her parents Harold and Reba Lange.  Her father, Harold was a beekeeper, and it was through him that she began the journey of developing  a deeper appreciation of  the natural world. She went to Immaculate Conception school and then Mount Vernon high school.  She married and then birthed her son, Aaron and then soon after, adopted her daughter, Amber.

Sherry completed an art degree at the Seattle Art Institute, as it was her means for learning how to express what she saw in life's beauty.   Soon afterwards, she met her life partner, Stan at a square dancing class.  The two fell in love and married in 1991.  They then moved back to Mount Vernon where she cultivated her artistic processes and started her own brand and business.

She was active in many different artistic organizations such as the Skagit Art Association and the Whatcom County Art Guild.  She and her husband, Stan would go to art shows.  She would discuss and sell her art, as he would play his keyboard to entertain not only her, but also the people passing by.  They had become an inseparable duo of creativity.

Sherry started to become ill and felt the loss of her left side in 2017.  The diagnosis was brain cancer.  She soon after became bed ridden, but still struggled to maintain creating and disseminating her art.  After fighting the cancer for almost 4-years, and losing her mobility and ability to create, she finally had to tell her husband that she was ready for her spirit to fly.  Sherry died, with great love in her heart: In her home, with her family…knowing she could free herself of the body that trapped her.  Her family is grateful for her strength, love, creativity, kindness and the joy and lessons she gave them of all that is beautiful.  And now… she flies!

Sherry is survived by the family she blessed: Her husband Stanley, Her son, Aaron, His wife Joann, Their son Zachary and her daughter Amber.
