Shirley Kathrine Burnett, 81, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2018 with her children by her side.
Shirley was born on February 26, 1937 in Mount Vernon, WA to Henning and Kathrine (Axelson) Pearson. She was the youngest of four children, joining sister Dorothy and brothers Richard and Gene. Shirley attended Mount Vernon High School and graduated with the class of 1955.
After graduating high school Shirley met and married Charles (Edd) Burnett in 1958. Their family expanded with birth of their only child Michael Alan Burnett. Michael married Teresa Moore in 1990 and when Shirley's first grandson Korey Daniel was born in 1997 she could not have been more delighted and insisted that he call her Grammy! In 2003 her second grandson Kristian Michael was born and she was just as excited!
Shirley enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events, gardening, crosswords, and loved watching the Mariners play ball. Shirley was always up for a good game of poker!! Spending time with her family and friends was very special for Shirley. Especially the time spent with her two treasured grandsons, Korey and Kristian. She was so proud of them and had a special bond with each of them. Some things we will always remember about Grammy is going Christmas shopping, making apple pie at Thanksgiving, always keeping the cookie jar full, her kind and gentle way and always making us feel loved and special.
Shirley leaves behind her only son Michael Burnett and his wife Teresa, her 2 grandsons Korey and Kristian, her ex-husband and close friend Edd Burnett, her sister in law Carol Pearson, brother Richard Pearson and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her long time friends Le and Eldeen Gilbert, Shirley London, Carol Pearson and many more.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Kopp, brother Gene Pearson, and sister in law Mary Pearson.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 3:30pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA
