Sonya H. Beard Sonya was born March 19, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas to Helen (King) and Samuel Lasen. She was married March 26, 1975 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Leonard S. Beard, a widower with 3 young sons. Sonya has lived in Miami, FL; St. Paul, MN; Honolulu, HI; Orcas Island, WA and for the last 19 years Mount Vernon, WA. She has been recognized in our community for her generosity; Giving Skagit Valley Hospital Wound Center a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber and the Mount Vernon City Library a generous donation for the new library. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her step-children: Stan (Glenda) Beard, Jeff (Nancy) Beard and Mike (Lynnette) Beard; step-grandchildren: Meredith (Dee Dee), Kevin, Brianna and Tyler. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Sonya's name to the Mount Vernon City Library Foundation, Hospice of the Northwest formally Skagit Hospice or charity of your choice. A Celebration of Sonya's Life will be held Monday, June 21, 2010, 2:00pm at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon.
