Thomas Joseph Troy of Mt Vernon, WA, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Mira Vista Care Center in Mt Vernon. He was born in 1942 in Sioux City, IA to Arthur and Nellie (Bernoski) Troy. In 1958, the family moved to Seattle, WA where he attended and graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School.
Tom graduated from Seattle University where he majored in business and also participated in ROTC. He earned his Master's in Hospital Administration from St Louis University in St Louis, MO. He was commissioned as an officer in the US Army and was stationed at Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, TX before moving on to San Antonio, TX for additional training. After training he was deployed to Vietnam serving at a Vietnamese hospital near the Cambodian border. During his tour in Vietnam, Tom's location came under fire and he sustained a penetrating head wound. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his meritorious service. He completed his years of service at Madigan General Hospital at Fort Lewis, WA.
After the Army, Tom worked as Assistant Administrator at St John's Hospital in Oxnard, CA and at the Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee, WA. He was promoted to CEO of Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee where he served for 17 years. He later worked as the Executive Vice President of Baptist Hospital Affiliates in Nashville, TN. He returned to the Pacific Northwest settling in Aberdeen, WA where Tom served as the CEO of Grays Harbor Community Hospital until his retirement. He continued to consult after retirement and especially enjoyed working with Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach, OR.
During his career he served as the President of the Washington State Hospital Association and was a member of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield board. He was a member of the Wenatchee Rotary Club and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
Throughout his life, Tom took great pride in a strong work ethic. He took great pride in each of his children and grandchildren and kept himself informed of each of their unique enterprises. He was never too busy to help his family and friends especially with home improvement and painting projects, always with a song in his heart. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Favorite projects including building a gasoline-powered go-cart, a roof-top playhouse, and cedar strip canoe. He loved the holidays especially Christmas.

He is survived by Judy, his wife of 53 years. His children Ann (Jacques) Bouchy, Tom (Darcel) Troy, William (Jennifer Garret) Troy, Jim (Wang Bo) Troy, Kathleen (Dave) Glose, T.J. (Juli) Troy. Grandchildren Julia, Meredith and Sarah Troy, Brigette and Nicolas Bouchy and Catalina and Sean Troy. His sisters Mary Payne and Geraldine Troy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carol O'Connor.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 12:15pm at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 N 15th St, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Flowers may be sent to Hawthorne Funeral Home, 1825 East College Way, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Donations may be made in Tom's name to Heifer International.
