Obituary

Wesley Dean Anderson was born Jan 19, 1940 in Red oak, Iowa. He passed away Feb 27, 2009, after a long battle with leukemia. He is survived by is wife, Janice, of the home and son Dean and wife Kari Jo and granddaughter Tori, daughter Lynne Knutson, granddaughters, Courtney, Amber, Jessica, daughter Theresa Sullivan and son-in-law Jim & grandsons Garrett & Colby; sister Jackie Tripp & husband Wayne and their children Philip, Danette and Randy; stepdaughter, Jamie Russell and her children Jill, Ben and Taylor; stepson Terry Harder and his children Courtney and Seth; stepdaughter, Candice Morgan and husband Tom their children, Darla, Jamie and Sean; stepson Greg Smith and wife Darla, their children Carrie, Kelly, Kasey and Christopher; stepson Mike Smith and his children, Brandon, Brianne and Mathew; sister-in-law Gerri Harriman and many grandchildren, aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews, and other family members and many, many friends. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Russell & Maxine Anderson and his brother Vernon (Andy) Anderson. Wesley loved his grandchildren, they called him Papa Fishy because of the lawn ponds that he was so proud of, and the gold fish that he enjoyed, thus the naming of their grandpa, Papa Fishy. Wes worked at Skagit River Steel for 29 years until his retirement due to his illness. He was a member and past president of the Skagit Runners. He ran many 10K and half marathons, of which he has several metals. Wes ran for cancer at all the cancer functions, until he came down with leukemia himself. As well as being an avid bowler and bowled in the Nationals, making several road trips to attend the tournaments. He was on the same team for 25 years. He was an avid hunter, always looking forward to the trips to Montana to hunt. He also was a fisherman, always catching the big fish. Wes was proud of his dahlias and had many compliments from his friends and other Mount Vernon residents that would stop by to see his dahlia garden. Wesley was a 20 year member of the Fraternal Order Eagles, Lodge #3242, as well as a member Moose Lodge #1640. Viewing will be held Tuesday March 3, 2009 9:00am until 5:00pm, Wednesday March 4, 2009 9:00am until 8:00pm and Thursday March 5, 2009 from 9:00am until the Funeral Service, 11:00am at Hawthorne Funeral Home 1825 E College Way, Mount Vernon. A potluck reception will follow at 1:00pm at the Burlington Eagles 119 N Cherry St.
