In 1936 Carl packed up his family of ten and made the long trip west to the town of Burlington, Washington. Bill met Margaret Ann Koerperich on a return visit to Kansas and were married in 1951. After serving in the Korean War Bill and Margaret raised sons Steve, James and Paul Their little girl, Rose Marie arrived years later. Bill had a long career with GTE, where many co-workers became lifelong friends. Son Paul followed dad to work for GTE and then Verizon. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, clam digging and crabbing at March Point. Bill is survived by his wife Margaret; his daughter Rose Marie and husband Brian Sweeney; sons Steve and Paul; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceding in death by his parents; son James; brothers Fred, Henry and Gerald; sisters Cecelia, Christine, Catherine and Ann. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 30, 2012, 11:00 am at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington, followed by a Graveside Service at Burlington Cemetery and a reception at St. Charles. "God took the strength of a mountain. The magesty of a tree. The warmth of a summer sun. The calm of a quiet sea. The generous soul of nature. The comforting arm of night. The power of an eagle's flight. The joy of a morning in spring. The faith of a mustard seed. The depth of a family need. Then God combined the qualities when there was nothing more to add. He knew his masterpiece complete. We called him Dad." Please share your thoughts of Bill and sign the online guest register at www.hawthornefh.com. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
