IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Leonard
Schols
January 27, 1932 – November 25, 2020
William "Bill" Leonard Schols of Burlington passed away at the age of 88 on November 25th,
2020.
Bill was born in Kent, Wa. on January 27th, 1932, the son of Peter and Lena (Pille) Schols.
Bill spent his first few years of life in Kent, then the family moved to the Bow/Edison area where
they were involved in family farming, raising cattle, milking cows, and raising various crops. Bill
attended Edison elementary and graduated from Burlington Edison High School in 1951
Bill served in the Army, stationed in Alaska working on their communications systems. He came
home to marry his high school sweetheart Margaret Fauser. They were married in La Conner,
and returned to Alaska to honeymoon and start their new life as Bill finished his commitment to
the service.
Bill and Margaret lived and raised their family of four in Burlington. Bill was employed for most
of his working career at Contel Telephone Service as a lineman, home installer and later as a
Systems Specialist. Following retirement he ran his own RV Repair business and later worked
at Valley RV for the Olson family. When his wife Margaret retired from teaching at Stanwood
High School, the two set off in their RV to explore the United States and Canada. They would
travel for a few months and then end up in Phoenix, Arizona to spend the winter eventually
buying a home in Sun City. Summers were always spent in Washington with the family.
Throughout their marriage Bill and Margaret enjoyed traveling, photography and camping at
their beloved Lake Conner Park, or as the family called it "the Lot"! They loved having the
family (mostly the grandkids) up to the lot for swimming, card games and s'mores.
Bill was the ultimate handy man: home repair, auto care, you name it and he could fix it. His
family members were the lucky recipients of his talented time. He also enjoyed golf and
gardening during his working years. During retirement years, he spent time perfecting his golf
swing and spent many many hours at the community wood shop in Sun City. His beautiful hand
turned wooden bowls were the prized gifts at Christmas time. His pride and joy were the many
wooden trucks, trailers and farm equipment he made at the wood shop.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother Bob, youngest brother Larry, his two
sons Tony Schols and Ron Schols. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Margaret, his Son
Brian (Debbie) Schols, his Daughter Sharrie (Norm) Nelson, two of four siblings, Linda Gunter of
Enumclaw, WA, Jim Schols of Bow, WA, grandchildren Heidi Schols, Casey Schols, Ryan
Schols, Carley Nelson, Colbey Nelson and Hayley Schols, 4 great grandchildren, Caden and
Caya, Dahlia and Cooper and many nieces and nephews around the state.
