Willis D. Harshman of Mount Vernon Washington passed away on January 17 th , 2021 at United General Hospital in Sedro Woolley at the age of 82. He was born on July 4 th , 1938 in Oxford, Nebraska to John and LuElla (Wolfe) Harshman.
The family moved to Washington State in 1941 and resided in Burlington, Fir Island, and Mount Vernon. Willis graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1956 where he was active in several clubs including Honor Society, Thespians, Torch, and tennis. He was president of FFA his senior year and participated in the Hugo Helmer Accordion Band. After high school, he attended college in Minnesota and then at Western before returning to Mount Vernon to work with his father on the family's agricultural farm. Willis served in the Army Reserve before continuing to farm in Skagit County until his retirement.
Willis trained for and obtained his private pilot license in the 1970's and owned and flew a Cessna aircraft. He enjoyed flying family and friends across the country for many years. When he was homebound later in life, he looked forward to regularly sharing prayers with a caring neighbor.
Willis is survived by his sister, Barbara Ricketts of Mount Vernon, his daughter Molly Harshman and granddaughter Ashlee Cavanaugh of Bellingham. He was preceded in death by his father (1991) and mother (2000).
At Willis's request, no service will be held. Family was present when he was laid to rest next to his father at Hawthorne Memorial Park. The family wishes to send its thanks to dear neighbors and Birchview Memory Care Center of Sedro Woolley for their care.
